Conversations with Cam’ron, Vince Staples, & Eddie Huang
The Scion AV All-Purpose Show is back to start its fourth season, with special guests Eddie Huang, Vince Staples, and Cam’ron. Handling the hosting duties, as always, is Prince Paul and his son DJ PForREAL. Hopefully you’ve already checked out the rides these charismatic individuals took in the Scion iA to get to the taping.
First up the multi-talented Huang, draped out in shellfish, talks about the importance of getting money in multiple ways and the new EP he put together for Scion. He also teases Back on the Mothership, the sequel to his best-selling memoir, Fresh off the Boat.
Our man on the street Stevie Lee, resplendent is a tuxedo with tales, braved the madness of San Diego and the world’s biggest comic book convention. We sent Lee down there to check out the world premiere of AIR, the first feature film from Skybound Entertainment, the company responsible for The Walking Dead, Invincible, and many other titles. We let Lee loose on the blue carpet for the premiere and the party for the fifth anniversary of Skybound, presented by Scion.
Next up on the All-Purpose Show set is Vince Staples, one of the most promising young rappers doing it right now. Coming out of Long Beach, California, he talks about the depth of his lyrics and whether anyone is listening anyway. Staples then gives an intriguing answer about who he doesn’t want to work with when he plays a round of Blank This.
Lee also visited the Scion AV Installation space to meet up with Terri Wahl to learn about her show “Cook With Abandon.” Wahl started the Los Angeles restaurant Auntie Em’s Kitchen and is a former member of the punk band Red Aunts. She explains to Lee how the music she played is similar to the food she makes and talks about the concept behind her cookbook, The Auntie Em’s Cookbook: A Musician’s Guide to Breakfast and Brunch. Finally, she shows some of the items created for “Cook With Abandon,” including a turquoise in-laid cutting board and custom knives.
Closing things out one the set is the one and only Cam’ron. Paul and PorREAL are obvious fans, and Cam’ron gives them the deal on his top five Rap City freestyle, his incredible merch game, and the on-and-off new Dipset mixtape. Also, it turns out Cam’ron is a huge Larry David fan. Pretty, pretty good.
